John G. Lake said the 9 gifts of the Holy Ghost are “divine equipment by which the Church is forever to do the works of Jesus.” Who would refuse divine equipment? I want to receive it and be bold to step out in the divine equipping – in the working of miracles, the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, and discerning of spirits. Without the gifts of the Spirit, the works of Jesus aren’t going on.
But it’s not going to happen automatically. We have to contend for the supernatural to be in operation in our lives. Contending means you’re waiting on it and you’re not going to leave until you get it. He gave supernatural gifts unto the Church; we should be craving them, wanting them. A gift has to be received, or it doesn’t get opened.
One way you can start to function in the supernatural is by praying in the Spirit then asking God for the interpretation of what He’s saying. To get hungry for what God wants to give, we have to do something not just in church but at home, too. When you ask the Lord to interpret your tongues, just speak it out. He’ll tell you things about yourself or things surrounding you, and maybe some issues you’re having. But it also shows you that you can function in the supernatural.
You might think, “I’m not spiritual enough for the gifts to flow through me.” If Jesus Christ lives in you, if you’re baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit, you’re a candidate. So don’t let the devil talk you out of it! God can do so many things through us, but we can’t hesitate when He asks us to do something that allows His supernatural power to be displayed through us.
